The Armenian Holocaust

“Perhaps the first use of the word –holocaust- to describe a human rights disaster was on the front page of the New York Times on Sept. 10, 1895, in the headline Another Armenian Holocaust. The article describes the mass murder of more than five thousand Armenians by a force of one thousand Turkish troops in the Erzinjan district of Eastern Turkey”.
(Peter Balakian, The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America’s Response, HarperCollins Publishers, 2003, NY, USA, P. 11)
