For the first time since Iraq's invasion in 2003, the morning, afternoon and evening services of the Holy Week of 2009 from Palm Sunday to Easter, were held at St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Baghdad.
More than 1000 people attended the Easter service. Earlier, hundreds more attended Palm Sunday (Dzaghgazart), Passion Service (Khavaroom), and Commemoration of the Burial of Our Lord (Taghoum).
Though usually considered as a vibrant community, Iraqi Armenians have been recently fleeing Iraq to other countries. The leaders of the community are exerting extra effort to preserve the community.
