Diocesan Assembly in Iraq

At the invitation of the Diocesan Council of the Armenian Diocese of Iraq, clergy and lay delegates traveled to Baghdad from the north and the south of Iraq.  The Assembly was convened on 10, 11 and 12 May, 2012.
During several meetings the delegates reviewed organizational reports of each of the 9 parishes. They also discussed the difficulties caused by the absence of security in some parts of Iraq. The troubles and the problems made Armenian families to leave the country or to relocate in the northern part of Iraq. This state of affairs is currently necessitating the formation of new parishes.
Also, the clergy met with the Primate and the chairpersons of the Diocesan Council and of the different parishes.
The high point of the Assembly was the reelection of His Eminence Archbishop Avak Asadourian as primate for the next four years. This was Serpazan Hayr's 9th unanimous reelection.
We congratulate our Primate and wish him successful pastoral work with fruitful service and long healthy life.
